Tiger Woods ends Golf Channel 'lynch' row - Telegraph

Tiger Woods ends Golf Channel 'lynch' row - Telegraph: "Tiger Woods has sought to put an end to the 'lynch' controversy, claiming that US TV presenter Kelly Tilghman meant no harm when she used the term during an ill-judged quip about the world No 1 golfer.

Tilghman was suspended by the Golf Channel for two weeks after joking with Nick Faldo that the only way to stop Woods winning every tournament was to 'lynch him in a back alley'.

The incident also resulted in the sacking of Golfweek editor Dave Seanor after he put a noose on the cover of the magazine to highlight the issue."

AFP: Defending champ Goosen out of Qatar golf Masters

AFP: Defending champ Goosen out of Qatar golf Masters: "DOHA (AFP) — Retief Goosen's hopes of becoming the first golfer to win the European Tour's Qatar Masters on two occasions were wrecked on Wednesday when he was forced to withdraw with vision problems.

The South African came to Doha after undergoing corrective laser surgery ten days ago but during practice on Tuesday, his vision in one eye began to blur. He immediately travelled to Dubai for further treatment and was hopeful of playing the event even on Tuesdy night. However, he announced his withdrawal Wednesday morning, saying he was still having problems with his vision.

Goosen said: 'I am obviously very sad that I am unable to defend my title. I came all this way to play but unfortunately the eye is causing a problem.

'I thought it would come good but it hasn't. I went to Dubai yesterday and the advice was to go back to London for treatment.

'It is a shame as I love this event, love this course and I can't remember the last time I pulled out of a tournament.'"

AFP: Australian snake misses the birdie, swallows golf balls

AFP: Australian snake misses the birdie, swallows golf balls: "A couple discovered the one-metre (three-foot) python at their property with four bulges in its stomach and realised it had eaten golf balls placed on nests in a chicken coop to calm broody hens.

They took the ailing serpent to Currimbin Wildlife Sanctuary in Queensland state where senior veterinarian Michael Pyne safely removed the balls.

'Without surgery, it would have certainly died,' Pyne told AFP.

'The golf balls had travelled as far as they could in the snake's system and it was destined for a slow, painful death without surgery.

'You could clearly see the golf balls on the X-rays, so we knew what we were dealing with.'

Pyne said the snake, which is not considered dangerous to humans, was recovering well after the surgery late last month and would soon be released back into the wild, near the property where it was originally discovered."
